THE telephone numbers and area codes of some cities in Guangdong province will be revised to allow more lines.
Hongkong Telecom said yesterday the change would also allow more room for future telecommunications development in the fast-growing province.
For the cities of Zhuhai (including Doumen), Zhanjiang (including Xuwen, Suixi, Lianjiang, Haikang and Wuchuan), Jiangmen (including Xinhui), Sanshui and Gaoming, callers will have to dial seven-digit numbers instead of six-digit ones.
The new numbers are simply formed by adding a single digit, which may vary from city to city, before the six digits of the current numbers.
At the same time, area code changes are scheduled to take effect in Xuwen, Suixi, Lianjiang, Haikang, Wuchuan, Xinhui, Sanshui and Gaoming.
The mobile telephone numbers and special service numbers will remain unchanged.
