I REFER to previous letters concerning the flow of humanity around and about the Wan Chai MTR station. Anyone can see that congestion at peak travel times is serious and the possibility of injury to commuters must be regarded as high. But the problem does not just rest with the MTR management, which has already taken steps to encourage the public to use both subway access points leading to/from Lockhart Road. Consider that the subway labelled ''Convention Centre'' actually underpasses Hennessy Road towards the south and becomes an important link between areas of Wan Chai after the MTR is locked up for the night. At this point we must bring in the Government. Since the re-location of substantial government offices to North Wan Chai (Revenue Tower etc), only the Government knows with any accuracy the true number of workers and general public using these facilities. Those of us who live here know that the number is very substantial. The walkway constructed to connect the three towers (and the Convention Centre) to amenities such as the MTR passes across Harcourt Road but ends above the MTR access point in Lockhart Road. The termination of construction gives one the impression that it was intended to continue across Hennessy Road to allow pedestrians access to South Wan Chai, trams, and other transport. It doesn't take an expert to see that if this walkway were to be completed it could ease the congestion in the subway to a large degree. Come on you government planners - what are you intending to do about this? JAMES RAMSAY Wan Chai
