STRONG economic developments in Argentina over the past few years have been good for business, says Carlos D'jaen, chairman of import-export company DMC Ltd.
DMC, which is based in Hong Kong, turned over $250 million last year. It does most of its business with Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Mr D'jaen, an Argentinian businessman, formed the general trading company in 1970 with two associates but now owns the whole business.
Mr D'jaen attributes the positive climate of growth to Argentina's Minister of the Economy, Domingo Cavallo.
''He has straightened out the economy and positioned Argentina as a worldwide leader in economic development. Today, it is a very stable country and ranks high in international markets,'' Mr D'jaen said.
DMC focuses mainly on exporting to Argentina garments, bicycles, electrical appliances and toys from the Asia-Pacific region.
One of its most important imports from the United States, France and Britain to Asia is specialised equipment for producing liquid petroleum gas. Last year, its sales of gas totalled $40 million.
