WAS I seeing things? A television commercial promoting sales of a well-known German motor car shows Britain's Queen Elizabeth II being driven royally to some function or other in that very make of car. The accompanying voice-over indicates that this is the regular carriage of choice for the sovereign. With the 50th anniversary of D-Day, in which we fought against the Germans in some of the bloodiest military action in the history of the world, only a few days away, this would, to say the least, suggest tactlessness of mammoth proportions. Television advertisers are known to pay regular residual fees to those whose likeness appear in such productions. Could we be informed as to whether or not Her Majesty is in receipt of such royalties? TED THOMAS Causeway Bay
