THERE was no need for an environmental impact study to be conducted on a proposed sports ground in Siu Sai Wan. The stadium, expected to house 12,000 spectators, would have only limited potential for environmental problems, said Secretary for Recreation and Culture, James So Yiu-cho. Chim Pui-chung had asked if measures would be taken to prevent a repeat of the kind of noise problems experienced at the Hong Kong Stadium. Apart from athletics meetings and soccer matches, the sports ground could also be used for community functions. The Architectural Services Department was liaising with the Environmental Protection Department to avoid possible noise or other environmental nuisance, Mr So said.
