IT is not true that improvements to the windshear warning system at Kai Tak were prompted by the China Airlines crash in November, 1993 (South China Morning Post, May 23).

The Royal Observatory and the Civil Aviation Department have kept the system constantly under review in light of any new knowledge emerging worldwide.

The improvements are on record as having started to be considered in December 1988.
