HONG KONG will witness the long-awaited grand opening of Planet Hollywood on Sunday. It promises to be a performance unlike any the territory has seen.
Thousands are expected to line the route outside the Canton Road restaurant clamouring to catch a glimpse of some of the movie world's biggest stars.
Planet Hollywood is the brainchild of film producer Keith Barish, who was responsible for the Meryl Streep film Sophie's Choice, 91/2 Weeks, starring Kim Basinger, and Harrison Ford's The Fugitive. He formed a partnership with conceptual restauranteur Robert Earl and, shortly afterwards, film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone added their names.
Movie memorabilia from some of the greatest films can be found in each of the restaurants and Hong Kong's will be no exception. Hollywood mythology has captured the imagination of fans and made it a favoured haunt of top celebrities.
The stage is set to roll out the red carpet on Canton Road to welcome Willis, Schwarzenegger and Ghost star Patrick Swazye, as well as local film celebrities, including kung fu hero Jackie Chan.
Three ''press pens'' will house the world's media anxious to record the moment.
