A WAITER sexually abused his stepdaughter over a period of two years from the time she was 12 as her younger brother slept in the same room, the High Court heard yesterday. The man started molesting the girl, a devout Christian, after he struck up a relationship with the child's mother and moved into the family home. Police said they believed the abuse had taken place once a week. Senior Crown Counsel Richard Donald said the matter came to light only when the girl complained to her Bible tutor. The 45-year-old defendant admitted two sample counts of attempted rape and one count of indecent assault between August 1991 and July last year. Mr Donald told the court: ''The offences normally occurred late at night when the defendant was at home alone with the victim and her brother, her mother being at work. ''The victim would be in bed and the defendant would climb into bed with her, the younger brother would be asleep in the lower bed bunk.'' Mr Donald said on the last occasion the defendant had molested the girl when they went to decorate the family's new flat in north Kowloon. Deputy Judge Wilson adjourned sentencing until June 16 after defence counsel Guy Holland asked for probation reports. The defendant was remanded on bail.
