NEW Zealand Insurance Hong Kong has appointed Tony Wu as central branch manager. In his new capacity, Mr Wu will be responsible for business development, client servicing and the day-to-day operations of the branch.

  Vivian Tam has been appointed the firm's assistant claims manager (non-marine).

 INTERNATIONAL law firm Linklaters and Paines has appointed Judith Crosbie as head of its china practice department in Hong Kong.

  Ms Crosbie will co-ordinate the activities of a number of solicitors in the Hong Kong office who are already active in China business. MICHAEL Duck has been appointed general manager of the Hong Kong Trade Fair Group. His responsibilities will be for themanagement of the group's trade fair activities in Hong Kong and China.

  Gary Marshall has been appointed chief finance officer, Asia, of the United Newspaper Group. His responsibilities will include financial control for the group's trade fair and publishing activities on a regional basis.

NELSON Chan has been appointed finance director of Inchcape Pacific Limited, based in Hong Kong. He will focus on the group's China development activities.

  Dick Chan has been appointed managing director of Inchcape China Technologies Limited (part of Inchcape Pacific) with overall responsibility for the group's consultancy and project and capital equipment sales activities in China.

  K. S. Yeung has been appointed Inchcape Pacific's general manager of contract manufacturing for China.

 PROPERTY agents John D. Wood and Co has appointed Alison Hammerbeck as its representative in Hong Kong to liaise with companies and individuals in the territory interested in acquiring property in Britain. ADVERTISING agents J. Walter Thompson has promoted Ron Cromie to group managing director, China.

  Dennis Wong has been made general manager, South China, based in Hong Kong, while Soames Hines becomes general manager, Shanghai. Nene Leung has been promoted to deputy general manager, Shanghai. SWISS-Belhotel has appointed Jamie Wong as food and beverage manager at the Marina Ming Wah, Shekou, Shenzhen province, China.

  In the sales department, Marina Ming Wah has also appointed Alice Ruan as sales executive.

KEVIN O'Shaughnessy of Grant Thornton Byrne is to join the British Chamber of Commerce's general committee and has been appointed chairman of the chamber's new emerging enterprises sub-committee.

  John McArdle has been made research and publications executive of the chamber. Susannah Richard has been made membership and business services executive.

LEO Burnett Hong Kong Ltd has promoted Julie Wong, Benjamin Tsang and Phil McAveety to the group account directory.

   Ms Wong joined Leo Burnett China in February 1992 and was named manager of the Guangzhou office earlier this year. Mr Tsang joined the company as an account manager in July 1989, while Mr McAveety came to Hong Kong in April 1992.

 JARDINE CMG Life Assurance Limited has appointed Kelvin Prisk as general manger of operation and corporate actuary.

  As the firm's chief financial officer, he will be responsible for overseeing the control, reporting and compliance requirements for all of the company's financial matters.

 GREGORY Crichton has been appointed director of American International Assurance Co Ltd (AIA), a member company of American International Group.

   He will formulate life insurance policies and strategies directed towards AIA.

  In hotel appointments around the region, Clive Chu becomes president and Francis Chow vice president (finance) of Royal Garden Hotels International Corporation.

  This wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties Co Ltd was formed to operate the Royal Garden, Hong Kong, and the Royal Garden, Beijing.

 Hyatt Regency Hong Kong has appointed Rene Dietsche as director of food and beverage.

   Richard Dumas has been appointed general manager of the Royal Garden, Tsim Sha Tsui.

   Savio Pong becomes the new reservations manager at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong. Andrew Lau has been made marketing services manager, Sharon Lee the new assistant director of catering, and Wilma Wu the catering sales manager.

  The Palace Hotel Beijing has appointed Steven Kalczynski as resident manager. Omni The Hongkong Hotel has made Shirley Chang banquet sales manger.

  Philip Wong has been promoted to assistant front office manager of the Royal Park Hotel, Hong Kong, while May Lau has been promoted to become the hotel's assistant public relations manager.

 Christopher Liew Siak-wei has been appointed banquet manager of the Holiday Inn Lido Beijing. THE Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) Society has appointed Raymond Poon as its Hong Kong branch manager in charge of recruiting, training and development of thesales team.

  MARITIME and commercial law specialist Holman, Fenwick and Willan (HFW) has appointed six new London partners, with two of them based in Hong Kong.

   They are Paul Hatzer, who first joined the firm in 1988 and came to Hong Kong last year, and Simon Davidson, who also started at the firm's London office in 1985 and came to Hong Kong in 1990.

   DAVID Paulon, executive vice president and managing director of Holiday Inn Worldwide - Asia Pacific, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and to the PATA Industry Council.
