I KNOW that WinFax Pro 4.0 is out, but is it yet available in Hong Kong? If so, who is the agent? Due to heavy travelling round Asia, I need a system that lets me dial in and remotely retrieve my faxes on my notebook. I understand WinFax Pro 4.0 has this feature, provided both ends run WinFax Pro 4.0 and Class 1 modems, but I'm not sure. Do you know of any solutions to this problem? For some peculiar reason, I have ''call waiting'' on my fax line. How can I include a command in my ''init'' string to disable this? (I guess settings in Hong Kong are the same as the US.) I use a Supra v32bis external modem and Eclipse fax, ProCom and WinCim.
Often I have problems sending/receiving faxes to destinations such as the Philippines, China and Vietnam due to line noise. Are there any settings for the COMM.DRV that can improve sensibility and the like? Is there any difference between COMM.DRV from Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11? Is the COMM.DRV from WinFax called WFXDRV.DRV a better solution than COMM.DRV from Windows for Workgroups 3.11? NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED Phew, that was quite a set of questions.
The latest WinFax Pro 4.0 is now available. It does offer greatly increased features, such as optical character recognition. But be warned, it now eats up more than 10 MB of your hard disk and you are advised to have six MB of RAM to get it going.
Among other things, it allows faxes to be forwarded to a preset number irrespective of whether this is connected to a fax machine or fax/modem. This may be of only small assistance to you in your travels, of course, things are somewhat changed if you want to forward faxes to a different number everytime.
An intelligent fax/ modem called Microfax can store faxes in its own memory and allows you to call it from remote and forward those faxes to any number around the world. This might be what you're looking for.
The simplest solution to your call-waiting problem would be to call Hongkong Telecom on 1800 or 1000 and ask it to disable the feature.
