THE Kowloon Motor Bus Company was yesterday ordered to pay $450,000 in damages to a woman who was injured when jolted out of her seat on one of the company's buses.
Cheung Chuen, 60, has been unable to work since the August 30, 1988, accident, the High Court heard.
A statement of claim blamed the accident on driver Chan Tak-kan's negligence. The court heard he caused the bus to jolt so violently Ms Chueng first hit her head on the ceiling and was later thrown to the floor.
Ms Cheung was kept in Prince of Wales Hospital for a fortnight after the incident. After returning home she was unable to get out of bed and had to be readmitted.
Mr Justice Jones heard the incident had left Ms Cheung with pain in her back, shoulder, abdomen and pelvis.
In a separate case a 62-year-old man was awarded $140,000 yesterday after he was knocked over by a speeding motorcyclist in Shanghai Street, Kowloon.
