A TEENAGE maid plunged 19 floors to her death less than two weeks after starting work for her employers.
Maricel Lorica, 18, killed herself hours after handing in her resignation to So Chi-keung and his family at their flat in Heng Fa Chuen, Chai Wan.
Mr So told the Coroner's Court how he found Lorica's blue slippers on the balcony in the early hours of November 21 last year, after discovering her bed had not been slept in.
Mr So said Lorica, the family's fourth Filipino maid, earned $3,200 a month and worked from 8 am to 11 pm.
But he added: ''We found she had difficulty expressing herself in English and was rather weak. After doing work for a few hours she would need to take a rest.
''We tried to train her to work more and more. We intended to help her become a good domestic helper.'' But the inquest heard Mr So's wife Law Shim-chun told the Po Lee Maid Company she wanted a replacement on November 19.
