A JUDGE will begin delivering a marathon verdict today in the District Court trial of 14 defendants charged with rioting in the Sek Kong detention centre.
On the 133rd day of the trial today, Judge Hartmann is expected to commence reading the 180-page judgment.
He has reserved two days for delivering the verdict, allowing for the fact the judgment had to be translated from English into Vietnamese by an interpreter to the defendants.
The riot, at the Sek Kong camp on February 3, 1992, left 24 Vietnamese dead and 126 injured.
Having viewed the Crown evidence against ''the admitted background of tumultuous events that consumed Sek Kong camp on the night of February 3, 1992'', Judge Hartmann earlier had likened the scene in and around Huts C5 and C6 of Section C to a battlefield.
On trial are Do Van Dong, Ho Yen, Huynh Dung, Le Huu Thanh, Le Quyet Ninh, Le Van Thuung, Le Xuan Lang, Nguyen Dieu, Nguyen Hoa, Ninh Phung Ching, Phan Duc Vinh, Su Duy Tuan, Tran Hai Bang and Tran Van.
