TVB ''The station that cares''.
The number of letters that have appeared over the years in these columns, prove this to be a total misrepresentation. Of the one or two hours worth of watchable programmes that the station airs on Pearl, one of the best is Frasier, shown at the ridiculous hour of 5.55pm each Friday. When I turned on for the episode a week last Friday, TVB thought that a more ''caring'' programme would be about rescuing people from fires. I'm sure most children found this highly entertaining! The opening scenes consisted of motorised karts catching fire as they raced, and the drivers having to be rescued. In consideration of all the tragedies in Formula 1 over the past month the powers that be obviously found this topical ''entertainment''.
Maybe it is time for the authorities to be ''topical'' with their mid-term review and withdraw TVB's licence. We'd only lose two or three programmes worth watching anyway and free these columns for more important problems.
