Kuk fights losing battle

A TOP Heung Yee Kuk official admitted last night the kuk was fighting a losing battle to stop a controversial bill to grant equal land inheritance rights in the New Territories.

Vice-chairman Daniel Lam Wai-keung said before a kuk delegation left for London to petition the British Government: ''Many legislators we contacted have said that in the view of equality, they will support the bill sacrificing our centuries-old rural inheritance right. We are very disappointed.'' The New Territories Land (Exemption) Bill, granting inheritance rights to indigenous women in the New Territories, will be debated in the Legislative Council on Wednesday.
