A GROUP of retail tenants to be evicted from Park Lane Square on July 1 have asked the Government to change the law and protect retail tenants from landlords.
The tenants have asked that landlords be made to disclose their plans for property development at the time of letting.
They said that in December last year leases on retail units in Park Lane Square were terminated by the landlord, a subsidiary of Miramar Hotel & Investment Co, in spite of the fact that many of them had just moved into the building on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The group is now examining leases in other buildings and believes the cards are stacked against retail tenants, who can be given six months' notice to move out to allow landlords to redevelop properties.
