IN a move to address the burgeoning portable PC market, Madge International, a leading supplier of intelligent Token Ring networking products and technology, has unveiled the Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnode, a flexible, high-performance, credit card-sized Token Ring adapter for portable PC connectivity.

Madge's Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnode performs four times faster than external parallel port adapters, and it is twice as fast as other vendors' PCMCIA Token Ring adapters in multi-protocol environments.

Shipped with Smart LAN Support Software and including Fastmac drivers and Smart Software, the Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Ringnode offers memory savings of up to 70 kilobytes of DOS memory in TCP/IP and IPX protocol environments, allowing the user to run memory-intensive applications when attached to a Token Ring network.

Market analysts are predicting explosive growth for PCMCIA-equipped notebook computers.

In a recent study conducted by International Data Corporation (IDC), of Framingham, Massachusetts, IDC reported that PCMCIA was a logical choice for the emerging smaller notebook market.

In particular, PCMCIA is useful for LAN access, faxing E-mail, file transfer, and accessing on-line services and intelligent networks.

In a March 1994 study, IDC predicted strong demand for PCMCIA notebooks. IDC statistics indicate 275 per cent growth in 1994 for notebooks equipped with PCMCIA slots.
