Widow sues over bus tragedy
A WIDOW who saw her musician husband hit by a bus in Mid-Levels is suing China Motor Bus and the driver for damages.
Andrew Lawrence, 38, was knocked down and killed when the bus mounted the pavement in Castle Road near the junction with Caine Road on September 5, 1992.
Sujata Subramanian, a classical singer, was injured when Chow Chung-yan lost control of the bus, according to a writ filed in the Supreme Court. She performed with her husband in Hong Kong's pubs and clubs as More Than a Whisper.
Ms Subramanian is claiming damages for nervous shock. She needed counselling for a year after the accident, and sleeping pills and sedatives for six months. She was unable to work for two months after the accident, the statement of claim says.
The driver pleaded guilty to careless driving last November in Western Court.
