I WOULD agree with Rainbow Yim (letter headlined, ''Crime time'', South China Morning Post, on June 28), that television does have an influence on its viewers, both children and adults.

However, to suggest that films unsuitable for children should not be shown until after midnight is, to my mind, a rather unfair solution.
What is wrong with young children going to bed perhaps before 11pm? A child's day is as tiring, physically and emotionally, as that of an adult.
They are equally in need of a rest at night.
I'm sure many teachers have seen the tired faces of children who have spent too many hours in front of television and cannot concentrate at school.
