CHANCES are that many of Hong Kong's 53,000 emigrants to Canada last year saw Cecilia Ho before they left.
''I see about five families a day just before they head off to Canada,'' said Ms Ho, the vice-president for Citibank Canada in Hong Kong.
Ms Ho said her job could best be described as a friend's counselling service for people about to head off for Canada.
''Many of the people who come to see me have never been to Canada before. My job is to give them advice on how things work in Canada and to help them set up their banking before they get there,'' she said.
The advice ranges from which areas are the best to live in to where to learn to drive.
Ms Ho has spent five years in Vancouver and Toronto. She said she was able to give her clients invaluable advice on how to survive the first few weeks in a new country.
