Duo do battle for Cup double

Donal Scully

IN 1990 Germany's coach Franz Beckenbauer became the first man to manage a side to World Cup victory after also captaining a team to the title. He became only the second man to win the Cup as both manager and player - Mario Zagalo of Brazil became the first when he coached Brazil to success in 1970. Two managers still in this year's tournament can emulate Beckenbauer and Zagalo - Ireland's Jack Charlton, who won as a player with England in 1966, and Berti Vogts of Germany who was a teammate of Beckenbauer in the 1974 success of then West Germany.
