FIRST there was Drive Time, then it was Kids' Hour, and now it is time to open up with Live And Loud, say RTHK disc jockeys Colleen Joynt and Matthew Scarff.

The pair are preparing the new one-hour show for eight to 14-year-olds which takes to the airwaves tomorrow at 4 pm.

The project came about because they felt there was a need for an English radio programme for children.

''We had phone calls from the young audiences during . . . Drive Time, which is similar to the one we've come up with, and we saw there was a group of untapped listeners, so we took the opportunity to start this programme,'' Joynt said.

While researching for the programme, Joynt and Scarff visited many schools canvassing youngsters' ideas, many of which will be used in the show.

''We have a part called School Of The Week for which Colleen and I go visiting schools and talk to kids,'' Scarff said.

''We've been to the Stanley Fort School because it's going to close down at the end of the term. We interviewed students on how they felt about it.'' They also visited West Island School to record speeches made by third formers and to discuss their feelings about moving to a new campus within the year.
