False alarm . . . smells wafting from a perfume and aromatics company in Causeway Bay yesterday were neither sweet nor spicy, instead sparking a gas leak scare and the evacuation of 1,000 workers who were left waiting on the pavement for the all clear. A female office worker, aged 22, was taken to hospital after inhaling the fumes. She was taken to Tang Shiu Kin Hospital for treatment. After an hour-long inquiry by police and Fire Services, the smell at Sunning Plaza in Hysan Avenue was traced to a spice being used by a 16th-floor firm, Givaudan-Roure Ltd, dealing with food and cosmetics spices. The firm refused to comment.
