Shun Shing wins $319m project in Singapore

PROPERTY developer Shun Shing Holdings has been awarded a $319 million contract to develop a residential housing estate in Jurong West Central in Singapore.

The 30-month contract was awarded to a joint venture between Shun Shing Construction and Engineering Co and Low Keng Huat (Singapore), with each party having a 50 per cent stake.

The project, which comprises design, erection, completion and maintenance of five blocks of 12 to 13-storey apartments with 604 units, is scheduled for completion by January 1997.

The developer will also construct a five-storey car-park with electrical substation and two civil defence shelters complete with mechanical and electrical services.

''We anticipate that there will be an increased demand from developers for the provision of design-and-build services,'' said Tse Kwok-wah, chairman of Shun Shing Holdings.

The integrated construction package not only minimised the developer's management time in liaising with various parties involved, but also allowed the main contractor to work more effectively with a feasible architectural design that fitted the requirement of the developer, he said.

''Given Shun Shing's extensive expertise in building construction, civil engineering and other property development-related professions, we will continue to broaden our activities to offer our clients comprehensive design-and-build services, which are expected to further enhance our competitiveness in the market,'' Mr Tse said.

The Jurong West project is the second project awarded to the group in less than a month. The developer was awarded a $246.5 million contract to build.
