THE former management of one-time First Division team Sea Bee would prefer their team to make a comeback by fielding an all-Chinese youth team, rather than an amateur staff team as has been suggested.

The present manager of Sing Tao, Shum Wang-ho, was manager of Sea Bee when the club's membership of the Hong Kong Football Association was sold to the since-withdrawn commercial giants Ernest Borel in the 1989-90 season. He said the former management did not want to see their old team relegated to the Second Division in the coming season - which would be likely if Sea Bee were to make a comeback with a team comprising staff of the owner Lam Wai-wah's company.

Shum said the former management suggested that a youth team - made up of players under the age of 20 from other senior clubs' reserve teams and the Hong Kong Sports Institute - would be much stronger than a staff team who have only participated in some inter-corporation competitions.

Shum said they had told Lam their idea and were waiting for his reply.
