I AM moved to write because so many now so readily condemn Maradona and, in mob frenzy, forget that very human value of compassion and the biblical injunction on casting stones. Until all final evidence is in from all sides, Maradona deserves our sympathy for his predicament. I do not condone the use of drugs in sports to enhance performance - even all-too-common ephedrine. But until all findings are in and examined in cold, clinical detail, I for one would not like to associate myself with US World Cup chairman Alan Rothenberg's comments that he had ''little sympathy'' for Maradona and that the Cup would not miss his talents. Please spare the world of self-professed ''drug free'' and ''honest'' sports administrators. C. P. HO Wan Chai
