FORM Seven graduate Lam Yat-yin came a step closer to realising his dream of becoming a doctor when he saw four distinctions on his Hong Kong Advanced-Level Examination results slip.

The Queen's College science student received A(1) in Chinese Language and Culture, A(2) in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and B(4) in Use of English. Two years ago, Yat-yin, 20, scored seven As and two Bs in the HKCEE.

With such results, his chances of pursuing medical studies at either the University of Hong Kong or Chinese University are certainly high.

''I like to spend time with people and take care of them, so I think medicine is the best choice for me. It suits my personality,'' Yat-yin said.

He had the best result in his school for Chinese Language and Culture - an A(1).

''I like reading books in Chinese. This has helped me in tackling questions at the exam,'' he said.

Yat-yin came to Hong Kong from China in 1982. As his English was not very good at the time, he had to start at Primary Two instead of Primary Four, for which he was the right age. But he took this as a challenge to work on his language skills.
