WHEN I reached the age of 18 I thought that after all these years I was finally recognised as an adult.

As an 18-year-old I have so many new options open to me.

I am able to make decisions on my own without the need to get consent from my parents.

Being 18 means I am able to do things such as view Category III material and consume alcohol legally. But, I realised that there was more available to me: I'm allowed to join the public library without the hassle of getting my parents to sign the application form.

I'm allowed to open a current account at the bank. I'm allowed to apply for a credit card. Now, I'm even allowed to vote.

The one thing I found that I was not allowed to do was to join KPS and similar video cassette/laser disc rental stores as a main member. Apparently to do this I have to be 21.
