A MAN who had unlawful sex with a mentally retarded woman was yesterday convicted in the District Court and sent to jail.
Judge Kilgour sentenced Wong Wai-on, 28, to 21/2 years' imprisonment after he was convicted of a count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a defective woman between December 1, 1991, and February 18, 1992. He denied the charge.
The victim, then 31, who cannot be named, gave birth to a baby boy in Kwong Wah Hospital on September 14, 1992. The boy is being supervised by the Social Welfare Department.
Passing sentence, Judge Kilgour said he took a very serious view of the offence. Wong was lucky he did not face a more serious charge because the victim was extremely upset after the sexual intercourse, which she had not consented to.
The judge said Wong had denied any responsibility when the victim told him over the phone she was pregnant.
When the woman's elder brother tried to clear up the matter, Wong denied he knew the victim.
