Fun training for young sports fans
YOUNG people who would like to learn a sport or perfect themselves in a particular activity are welcome to join the Urban Council Sports Promotion Scheme this summer.
The scheme, started in 1992 with training programmes in squash, hockey and swimming, has been expanded this year to include archery.
The squash and hockey promotion programmes include basic training organised in the 10 urban districts.
Beginners who show talent in the sport will be selected to join the refinement courses and take part in novice competitions.
Youths aged seven to 17 may enter for the squash courses. The hockey courses are open to entrants aged from 12 to 18.
The swimming promotion programmes aim to perfect the techniques of young champions at 10 district swimming galas to be held from September 25 to October 16.
