A MAGISTRATE played the role of a witness yesterday when he told a Western Court trial how a 20-year-old man narrowly escaped an accident. South Kowloon Court Magistrate Henry Brazier told the trial of Lo Kam-wing that on November 2, 1993, he was driving his Mazda up Stubbs Road towards the Peak. Mr Brazier said he noticed a white car, driven by Lo, overtaking him at about 85 km/h in the opposite lane. Lo's car stayed in the opposite lane in a bid to overtake a goods vehicle, 50 metres in front of Mr Brazier's vehicle. But another car appeared in the opposite lane. Lo pulled back behind the goods vehicle, narrowly escaping a collision with the oncoming vehicle. Magistrate Mary Yuen fined Lo $2,000 and ordered him to pay $750 costs after finding him guilty of careless driving.
