AcerNote series easy to upgrade

ACER is offering a series of versatile, affordable and lightweight notebook models for ordinary users.

The range of notebooks under the AcerNote label includes the AcerNote 530, 760C, 760CX, 735, and 735C.

Michael Mak, managing director of Acer Computer (Far East), said: ''The AcerNote series of modular notebooks is refreshingly attractive and innovative. Model by model, these offer good value for money. These easy to upgrade models are popular in the mass notebook market as they bring amazing computing power within easy reach of ordinary users.'' The AcerNote 530 runs on the 25 megahertz (Mhz) low voltage 386SXLV processor. Features include the Ultra VGA colour monitor, four megabytes (MB) memory expandable to eight MB using FRAM modules; autosensing A/C power adapter with smart charging control circuit; upgradeable 80 MB hard disk; removable optional EastTrac 25-millimetre trackball. It weighs 2.7 kilograms with battery plus 0.35 kg for the A/C adapter.

The AcerNote 760 range is powered by Intel's DX2 40MHz or 50MHz. The 760 features dualscan passive matrix colour monitor, while the 760CX has an active matrix colour display.

System memory is four MB, expandable to 12 MB using DRAM modules; hard disk is an upgradeable 250 MB and the notebook which comes with an A/C adapter weighs 2.85 kg (without the adapter).

A PCMCIA Type III slot improves flexibility by enabling the use of up to two PC cards. There is also a centrally located trackball.
