THE body of an elderly man was found under the mud in Kennedy Town last night, bringing the death toll from the collapse of a retaining wall on Saturday night to four and reinforcing fears for the safety of four others.
Five men and two women were missing after the mudslide but yesterday one of the women returned home after being in a karaoke bar and one of the men was found in a temporary shelter.
After two days of digging at the Kwun Lung Lau Estate, firemen have so far removed about only a third of the mud and rocks that toppled onto a footpath.
They found an arm protruding from the debris at 9 pm and it took more than two hours to remove the body of a man about 75 years old.
He had not been identified early this morning.
Thirty-four new landslips occurred yesterday, but government officials maintained Hong Kong's retaining walls were safe.
