IN the last two months, on five occasions, I have had to collect all my registered mail from Happy Valley Post Office, near where I live, because each time the postman claimed he was not able to deliver the item.
The first few times I put it down to the fact that perhaps my maid was out on some errands.
However, she assured me that she had stayed in almost the whole day and only went out to the supermarket after 5pm.
I tested the bell myself, it worked like a charm. It was not until the time when I stayed home on three days' sick leave, that I received another notification slip saying the postman had not been able to deliver the registered item and that I was to collect it from the branch, that I began to doubt the Post Office's genuine attempt to deliver my mail. My suspicion was confirmed when another such notification slip was received, when both my sons and my maid were at home the whole day.
This happened on July 22, when it was pouring with rain and the black rainstorm warning signal was in force.
I fail to understand how the postman could have delivered all the mail to my letter box in the building's lobby, yet he could not be bothered to press for the lift that would bring him right to my doorstep and deliver my registered mail? I found out that this phenomenon was happening not only to me but to other residents in various other districts.
