UNITED Parcel Service (UPS) will open a Hong Kong distribution hub in Kowloon Bay Cargo Centre in November, chairman and chief executive Kent Nelson says.
The company has leased 87,000 square feet of space and is installing state-of-the-art equipment at a cost of US$3 million.
UPS this month increased capacity and cut transit time on the Hong Kong-United States route by replacing its DC-8 aircraft with a non-stop Boeing 747 cargo aircraft.
The upgrade, coupled with a 7.30 pm take-off, allows UPS to offer the latest cut-off time for pick-up and delivery in Hong Kong.
''This benefits not only customers in Hong Kong but also in southern China,'' Mr Nelson said.
He said UPS would open representative offices in Wuhan and Dalian soon and was evaluating two other cities in China.
