I WAS saddened, as, I am sure, were all readers, to learn of the death of four people in last week's landslip.
However, more lives were not lost thanks to the efficient work of the emergency services, which evacuated residents living on the block close to the affected slope.
Those families which were affected were well looked after.
However, my thanks do not extend to the relevant government department, which according to the news reports, was responsible for examining this slope and declared it safe.
I wonder how many other slopes in Hong Kong are dangerous.
I am concerned about people living on these slopes, such as residents of squatter huts.
I don't know what standards and yardsticks are used by this government department for checking slopes, but clearly, they need to be revised.
