CHINA is inviting overseas investment in 110 light industrial projects, according to the Beijing-based Sino-Overseas Investment Enterprise News.
The invitation was announced by Pan Peilei, vice-president of the China National Light Industry Council, at a conference on international co-operative projects that attracted more than 100 diplomatic envoys and agents to Beijing.
The projects cover 18 sectors including arts and crafts, furniture, fur processing, consumer electronics, plastics, household chemicals and food, according to Xinhua (the New China News Agency).
From 1980 to 1992, China's light industry absorbed US$2.5 billion in foreign investment from 33 countries for 3,600 projects in 22 sectors.
About one-third of the country's import and export value comes from light industry.
Mr Pan said that China would support the development of paper-making, interior decorating, food, plastics, household appliances and machinery.
