THOUSANDS of train passengers were stranded in Hong Kong and Guangzhou last night when a landslide blocked the line north of Shenzhen. Workers were trying to clear the tracks in Zhangmutou, close to where a landslide halted services in March.

It was not clear whether services would resume today. The slide, which occurred at 5 pm, forced the 4.13 pm from Guangzhou to return to the city and three other trains - two from Hong Kong - to be cancelled.
