NIGEL STEARNS has been appointed general manager of the Hong Kong Cricket Club. He will succeed Keith Garner, effective November 1.

  Mr Stearns worked in London as a broker and estate surveyor before serving with the Royal Hong Kong Police where he reached the rank of superintendent. He is currently employed by Sino Land. He is a good all-round sportsman, excelling particularly at hockey and cricket, at which he has captained Hong Kong. NSC Securities (Asia) Limited has appointed Michael Sze as managing director.

  Mr Sze is a chartered accountant and has extensive experience in banking, securities and corporate finance. BOZELL PR has appointed Serena Kwok as senior public relations consultant.

  Ms Kwok comes from a financial background, having spent more than eight years specialising in the international financial and commodities markets.

 SOUTHERN Star Motor Company, the South China regional distributors of Mercedes-Benz China Limited for Mercedes-Benz products, has appointed Ulrich Opel as service manager.

   He has more than 30 years' experience in vehicle after-sales service with Mercedes-Benz and will help develop the expanding service network in southern China.

  Freddie Corpuz is the new spare parts manager.

    He will look after the firm's entire spare parts operations, including parts ordering, customer relations, warehousing and delivery services.

   Nelson Lau has been promoted to sales manager. NATIONAL Mutual Insurance has promoted Kinson Lau to agency manager.

  He has over 12 years' experience in insurance sales and agency management.

 ANDREW MACLEOD, internal audit manager for Cathay Pacific Airways Limited in Hong Kong, has been elected Information Systems Audit and Control Association Region 10 Vice President for 1994-1995.

   The announcement was made at the association's 1994 annual general meeting in London. The meeting marked the organisation's 25 years in existence.

  Mr MacLeod has been a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association for seven years.

H. B. Electronics Limited, part of the newly listed telephone manufacturer, H. B. International Holdings Limited, has appointed Johnny Lai as assistant financial controller.

  Mr Lai, a chartered accountant, will be responsible for financial and related matters involving the group's activities in Hong Kong and China.

  Paul Mau has been made chief accountant. He will be responsible for all group accounting and related matters. PRICE Waterhouse has appointed Reynold Hung as a tax partner specialising in Hong Kong and Canadian taxation.

   He joined Price Waterhouse in Hong Kong in 1989 and, in addition to duty planning, will be responsible for advising Hong Kong residents emigrating to Canada on their personal tax planning.

  Simon Tsang becomes an audit partner, specialising in the audit of banking clients. He joined Price Waterhouse as a senior manager in 1992.

  URBAN Councillor Carlye Tsui has been elected to the 11-member board of directors of Zonta International.

  She is the only Asian this term to join the board of the 75-year-old worldwide service organisation of executives in business and the professions, aimed at advancing the status of women.

  Ms Tsui, who is chief executive of a PR firm, will serve a two-year term.

 SMITH New Court Far East Limited has appointed Chester Kwok as managing director of corporate finance.

   He will concentrate on developing and expanding corporate finance in Hong Kong.

  He was previously with Sanwa International Finance Limited where he was head of corporate finance.

  Timothy Yung has been appointed associate director.

  His responsibilities will primarily cover Hong Kong.

  Anthony Wood has transferred from the London operations to Hong Kong to become director of settlements.

   His responsibilities will cover the Asian region.

 NEW Zealand Insurance Hong Kong has appointed Corinna Cheng as claims manager.

   She will oversee the operations of the claims division.

   Andy Wong has been appointed assistant manager of the risk control division. He will be responsible for risk analysis and risk improvement.

 AROUND the hotels in the territory, the Kowloon Hotel has appointed Jasmine Fong as executive housekeeper and Fanny Sit as public relations manager. Gigi Bautista has been appointed director of catering and conventions at the Conrad Hong Kong. The hotel has also appointed Francois Vanvi as sales manager, Giovanni Viterale becomes the new maitre d' of Nicholini's restaurant, and Charles-Eric Merchie the maitre d' of the Brasserie on the Eighth.

  Hotel Victoria has appointed Johannes Zachbauer as executive assistant manager of food and beverage, while Ralph Gottschalk becomes pastry chef, Karen Wong the public relations manager, Ankee Leung assistant sales manager and Sandy Cheng manageress of the Bocarinos Grill.

  Kevin Croley has been appointed vice-president of sales for the Pacific-Asia for Inter-Continental Hotels.

  Kazue Yuasa has been appointed sales executive of Japanese accounts by the Island Shangri-La. Sharie Ross becomes the hotel's assistant public relations manager, and Stephanie Yeung business centre manager.

    Winnie Lai has been appointed assistant manager of public relations by the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

  Erich Kaiserseder has been made food and beverage manager of the Regal Kowloon Hotel, and Steve Shum executive chef.

  The Regal Riverside Hotel has made Gary Chu front office manager and Wong Ying-tong executive chef.

  The Gold Coast Hotel has appointed Ivan Lee as general manager.

   Hotel Furama Kempinski has appointed Hendrick Frijling as resident manager, Gina Ho catering manager, Elizabeth Irons public relations and advertising manager, Louise Li public relations officer, Peter Wong assistant food and beverage manager, and Hiroshi Mizota sales manager for Japanese accounts.

  The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has appointed Andrew Hirst general manager of the Mandarin Oriental, Macau.

  The Mandarin Oriental International Ltd has appointed Robert Leon non-executive director on the Mandarin Oriental board.

     and Tessa Willmott group marketing executive.
