THE Boeing Commercial Airplane Group will invest about US$100 million in China in the next two years, the company has announced.
Boeing recently outlined a number of moves, including setting up a main office in Beijing, which it said would ensure the company became China's premier aircraft provider.
The company also announced the signing of a contract of an unspecified amount with Xian Aircraft Co and China Aviation Supplies Co for the production of the aft section of Boeing 747s.
It also announced the appointment of Mike Zimmerman as president of China operations.
The company said it planned to move into new 32,000-square-foot headquarters by the end of the year.
As part of its $100 million investment, Boeing also announced it would open a spare parts centre in Beijing, which would rival already functioning centres in Singapore and London.
''The new spare parts centre represents a tripling in size,'' said Larry Dickenson, Boeing vice-president for international sales.
