HOTEL and emergency numbers in China could be issued to through-train passengers following a recent incident in which scores were stranded at Guangzhou station.

The Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) is to ask its Chinese through-train partners to take better care of passengers as part of an overall public relations effort.

The KCR wants to make sure it is not hurt when Citybus starts its inter-city coach service to Guangzhou, expected before the end of the year.

One of the options being put forward by the KCR is that all through-train passengers should be given an information pack listing hotels and emergency numbers in Guangzhou and in towns along the railway line.

The KCR is also likely to ask the Guangzhou Railway Corporation, which runs the through-train on the Chinese side, to set up a customer service centre at Guangzhou station.

''These are the sort of things we could suggest,'' said a KCR spokesman.
