A SERGEANT who allegedly assaulted a trainee police constable at the police training school last week has been transferred to administrative duties pending police investigation. A police spokesman said the sergeant had been transferred to another unit of the Aberdeen training school immediately after last Wednesday's incident. The 19-year-old trainee had returned to the school on Saturday after being granted sick leave following the incident, believed to be the first since 1948 when the school was set up. The sergeant is alleged to have punched the trainee constable several times during training sessions. The alleged victim was treated in hospital. Aberdeen police assistant divisional commander (crime), Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Wan Yiu-kei, said he hoped to complete investigations in a week. ''We'll then submit the case file to the Attorney-General for legal advice. I can't comment at this stage as the investigation is continuing,'' he said. Detectives are interviewing all 30 members of the training squad the victim belongs. They will also take a statement from the police sergeant concerned.
