WEST Australian shipbuilder Austal Ships has delivered its 22nd catamaran to Chinese operators. The Xin He Shan arrived in Hong Kong on board the heavy-lift ship Antje from Fremantle in Western Australia on Saturday. The latest delivery, constructed with Austal's classic round bilge and bulbous bows styling, was built for the He Gang Passenger Transportation Corp and will be registered to the port of He Shan in Guangdong province. With another 40-metre, gas turbine-powered catamaran under construction for the Zhong Shan-Hong Kong Passenger Shipping, Austal has now sold 23 catamarans in the 40-metre size range to Chinese operators. Xin He Shan has a passenger capacity of 300, and as with all Austal vessels, has been customised to meet client requirements, as it operates from He Shan to Hong Kong. The vessel has a fully laden speed of 33.5 knots with a range at continuous speed of 300 nautical miles.
