I AM writing in response to your columnist David Faulkner's article published on August 10.
I am in agreement with Mr Faulkner's advice that care should be taken in selecting a firm to carry out valuation and/or consultancy work.
In addition to the points raised, the reputable firms generally have established research facilities which not only provide assistance to the valuers but also provide a service to clients.
However, I must point out an omission in Mr Faulkner's article.
He has not mentioned that, in addition to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), a number of valuers in both the private and public sectors are members of the Australian Institute of Valuers and Land Economists (AVLE) or its New Zealand equivalent (NZIV).
Both bodies have similar entry requirements, codes of ethics and continuing professional development like the HKIS and RICS.
