CONDITIONS concerning severance pay for workers should be revised based on a Labour Advisory Board consensus, legislator Henry Tang Ying-yen said yesterday. Mr Tang, deputy to the chairman of the Federation of Industries, said he believed employers would support all suggestions made by the board to a draft amendment bill on long service payments. His remarks followed a report that the employee and employer representatives of the board had informally reached an agreement to use 28 years as a dividing line in counting payment for workers. After that every two serving years would be counted as one. A government attempt to improve conditions was defeated in the Legislative Council in July and a second attempt being drafted will be tabled for discussion in the next Legco session.
