ACTING Governor Anson Chan Fang On-sang will miss the funeral of her cousin in Canada this week because of her packed diary. Dr Anthony Christopher Fang Tung-sang died in Ontario last Thursday but a government spokesman said Mrs Chan had no plans to join other members of her close-knit family in Canada. The spokesman added: ''As both acting Governor and Chief Secretary Mrs Chan has a number of appointments in her diary this week, while the fact that she is away next week has added to the importance of her being in Hong Kong at the moment.'' Governor Chris Patten will return to Hong Kong on Monday. Mrs Chan's brother, Dr David Fang Jin-sheng, flew to Ontario on Sunday to join other members of the Fang family. The spokesman pointed out that there were other ways in which Mrs Chan could express her condolences other than by attending the funeral. The late Dr Anthony Fang, the son of well-known Hong Kong doctor Harry Fang Sin-yang, studied medicine at the University of Hong Kong and practised at a clinic in Causeway Bay before moving to Canada.
