The American military-issue .45 automatic weapons are common in Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia.
The three men arrested are believed to have been about to commit another robbery, possibly at one of the local mahjong parlours.
They are being questioned about the recent spate of similar robberies in the area after police recovered a quantity of jewellery and watches believed to have been stolen in some of the raids.
Police arrested a 36-year-old male outside the Golden Harvest cinema in Jordan Road at 1.15 am. He was carrying a pistol loaded with six rounds.
