A PROSTITUTE who kicked her heroin habit while on remand over a manslaughter charge was yesterday placed on 12 months' probation for drug possession. The Crown dropped the manslaughter count against Fu Mei-ling, 31. She had admitted possession of 2.66 grams of narcotic found last September in her Shamshuipo flat, where former policeman Cheung Wai-shing, 30, died soon after she injected him with heroin at his request. When she appeared in the High Court on August 11, the Crown offered no evidence against her on the manslaughter charge, and sentencing on the heroin charge was adjourned. A report indicated Fu was unsuitable for probation, but Mr Justice Duffy said yesterday she had already served a longer jail term than she would have received for possession. An autopsy showed there was a high level of alcohol in Cheung's blood and that could have killed him.
