ALTHOUGH his posting in Hong Kong is only for three years, Ramli Othman, Malaysia's newly appointed Trade Commissioner (Finance) is ready to pack in as much work as possible. He assumed duties earlier this month. Mr Othman said being accessible to local and Malaysian businessmen was a priority. ''I want to be able to help as many businessmen get started as possible,'' he said. Mr Othman moved to Hong Kong from Malaysia's Industrial Development Authority (MIDA). ''One of the first things I will do is promote Malaysia as a profitable place for investment for Hong Kong companies that are ready to expand,'' he said. ''I want businesses to realise that China is not the only place that is offering excellent future opportunities to businesses.'' Hong Kong businessmen wanting to know more about Malaysia and manufacturing opportunities or other investment initiatives should call Mr Othman. ''I will be acting as a middleman for Hong Kong businessmen who want information and free advice about Malaysia from the government right down to trading,'' he said. Malaysians seeking information on joint ventures and licensing in China also should speak to Mr Othman.
