BARCLAYS Stockbrokers is offering British expatriate investors a service enabling them to deal in British shares.

According to Justin Urquhart Stewart, director of business planning, it will enable British nationals living abroad and overseas residents access to stocks quoted on the London Stock Exchange, including investment trusts, unit trusts, gilts and bonds.

There are two services: Barclayshare Portfolio, which allows direct telephone or fax share dealing, including safe custody of share certificates and twice yearly valuations, a regular information newsletter and automatic transfer of funds to and from expatriates' British Barclays bank accounts.

Barclayshare Advisory clients will also receive unlimited independent stock market advice and a monthly stock market report.

Mr Urquhart Stewart said: ''Should any of your investments be involved in a rights issue or takeover, we will write to you with full details and provide you with advice on a course of action.'' Both services also simplify tax returns by automatically sending annual dividend statements, showing the total dividend income and the income tax deducted.

Other companies, such as Fidelity Investments Management, enable investors to trade in London stock through their London offices.
